Etsy vs. Amazon

My husband and I have an ongoing conversation about what we call The Amazon Mindset. You know, the way that we’ve all been conditioned to expect everything we’ll ever need to be a click away and delivered to our door in 24 hours at no additional cost.

This isn’t an anti-Amazon post. I thoroughly enjoy all the wonderfully competitively-priced items that arrive magically on our doorstep. Amazon is critical to running my small business and it’s saved countless hours of going store to store trying to figure out what a child’s classmate may want for their birthday.

While Amazon as set the standard for mass-produced commodities, they haven’t figured out custom creations. Etsy exposed this weakness and has built an incredibly cool marketplace where artists and craftspeople can easily and professionally offer hand-made products and they can do so for a relatively low cost. Etsy does, very understandably, take commissions on sales. But the brilliant they they also do is allow their sellers to advertise within the marketplace. As a small business person, this is wonderfully efficient - the types of people who appreciate and purchase hand-made, one-of-a-kind keepsake products have self-identified by being on Etsy. So, for a few hundred dollars, you can ensure that these like-minded folks are seeing your products…it’s so easy, right?

Unfortunately, not. Etsy makes the promoting, selling, shopping, and buying easy…but there’s no way for them to fully explain they difference between a seller who’s warehouse is stocked piled with imported widgets that are ready to be drop-shipped and an artist who wants to create a custom item that captures who you are as a client. Personalized floral preservations ordered on Etsy require the same time, energy, and process as any custom flower art.

Our floral preservation Etsy Store is a store-front that helps brides and families shop for resin artwork choices to preserve their bouquet and wedding flowers. The big difference is that the Etsy Store is just the first step in the process of capturing your memories, style, and the love of your wedding day. When you make a purchase on our Etsy Store, you’ll continue on through the same personalization process, direct one-on-one communication, and step-by-step preservation process as when you commission a floral preservation on www.mindfultreeart.com.

We love receiving orders on Etsy and are eternally grateful to the clients who’ve left 27 5-star reviews. We look forward to preserving your wedding flowers and memorial floral arrangements, regardless of where you first found us!
