One popular way to preserve flowers is using silica gel. Silica gel is a desiccant, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air. You will need an airtight container (mason jars work well!), some silica gel, and tissue paper for this method. After arranging the flowers as desired in the jar, add two tablespoons of silica gel on top and bottom of the arrangement. Place a layer of tissue paper between each flower head for additional support and protection before closing the lid tightly on the jar. This process may take several days, so be sure to check on them periodically until they are fully preserved!
Press Your Own Flowers
Another great way to preserve your gorgeous wedding day blooms is by pressing them and placing them in a frame. We’re not experts in this method, but here are some steps that we’ve gathered for those who want to attempt this the DIY preservation: you’ll need to get some cardboard, wax paper, heavy books or weights, scissors or a knife, and glue if desired. Start by cutting out pieces of cardboard that are slightly larger than each flower head or stem that you would like to press and cover each piece with wax paper. Then place each piece of wax paper-covered cardboard onto a flat surface and carefully arrange your flowers onto each one before weighing them down with books or weights overnight—or up to three days depending on how thick each flower head is! Once pressed, trim away any excess wax paper around the edges before mounting them onto frames or canvas for displayable art! If desired, add glue for extra hold once mounted.
